Lost and Found

The fastest two days of the week have flown by again. I don’t know where the weekends go – I really don’t. I leave work on Friday afternoon with so many plans for how I will spend the next two days, and when Sunday night rolls around, I’m wondering where the time went.

Saturday was truly the most relaxing day I’ve had in a LONG time. My two sons and daughter-in-law gave me a spa day – a massage and a facial for Christmas. I’ve been so excited about it, but there’s been a part of me that has hesitated to use it – because once you use it, it’s gone.

But use it, I did – Saturday morning – and it was GREAT! I really think I could get in the habit of enjoying a massage and a facial every month. Now, I just have to find a way to make that happen. In the dollar department. Sigh – why does EVERYTHING come down to money?

When I got home, M reminded me that we needed to go to the local butcher shop to get some chicken. I didn’t feel like going back out again, so he went without me.

Big mistake.

I was tired from my “relaxing” all morning, so I stretched out on the sofa and dozed off for a while. I wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but when I looked around, I realized M had been gone much longer than he should have.

I checked the app I have on my phone to see where he was, and it said he was at home. Which meant, he hadn’t taken his phone with him when he left.

Great.

He was gone for over two hours and I wasn’t sure what to do. I thought about driving around, looking for him, but there were several different ways he could have gone to get to the store, so I might have missed him. And I didn’t want to leave the house, in case he called there.

So I stayed there and waited.

FINALLY, he came in. He was VERY upset – said he had been lost, never made it to the butcher shop, but finally found his way back home.

I talked to our younger son about it later that night and he suggested that I get M’s phone set up so all he has to do is say “Hey Google, take me home.” And Google Maps will direct him home. We’ve also put the checklist up, at the door, of all the things he needs to have before he leaves the house – keys, wallet, phone. glasses.

And that also means I have to go just about EVERYWHERE now. Unless it’s right around our neighborhood, where there’s no doubt about where he’s going, there’s no way I can send him out.

  1. Ugh, I’m sorry about M getting lost. It’s scary and it also put more responsibilities on you. I hope your sons are aware that you could use some help.

    1. You’re right – very scary!. The younger son knows, but is in Alabama. The older one is still in denial. You can’t make people see what they don’t want to see.
