As you know, I’ve dithered for weeks (months) about M and the driving situation. I know it’s something I need to handle and, let’s be honest, I’ve been putting it off.
Sunday, we drove his car to the local hardware store for a quick minute and, as we were ready to leave, the car wouldn’t start. The clutch in that car has been a constant issue – so much so that we have several replacements for the part that breaks at the house so we can take care of it ourselves – but that doesn’t help when you’re in the hardware store parking lot.
M knows how to pop the clutch and start it when it’s rolling, so you can imagine how cute we looked with me trying to push a Honda Civic across a parking lot to get it started.
No – it didn’t work. And also no – no one asked if they could help us.
When we got Younger Son (YS) back to the parking lot to take a look at the car with us, wouldn’t you know it, it started right up for him. AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!
We got it home and discovered the problem was – the starter.
But the blessing of the day was . . . M got so frustrated and fed up with the car that he decided, right then and there, that he didn’t want to have the car any more and he wanted to sell it.
Cue the BIG celebration!!
We sat down and talked to YS about buying the car, agreed on a price for it and he’s going to get it out of the garage ASAP so it will be out of sight and out of mind.
I know there are other tough conversations that are going to have to be had. But this is one that was handled without any muss or fuss. There isn’t going to be a car around the house for M to drive and I won’t have to worry about him deciding he needs to go somewhere.
Whew!
I just read your previous post about praying, and this sounds like an answered prayer to me. Congratulations on one more thing off your plate. Do you feel lighter? (I always do when something gets accomplished.)
I do! Like a huge weight has been lifted. One less bell to answer – as the song goes. There are more battles to be fought, but this one is done!
Congratulations. A big victory for today. I hope the fallout will be minimal, but the peace of mind you have now will be so important as time goes on.
You’re not kidding! I feel so much better – especially to just have it DONE!!
((Hugs))
🙂
I must admit, I laughed at the visual of you pushing while M was trying to get the car started. I KNOW that’s not funny, but there are so many blessings in this situation. I’m so glad the driving issue has been handled without a fuss.
Oh – it was hilarious! I can laugh about it now. I wasn’t laughing then. I wish I had a video of it, though. You’re right – SO GLAD to be done with this issue!!
