Tough Conversations I Don’t Want to Have

Oh man – why do these tough conversations come up before I’m ready to have them? But then again, are we ever really ready for the tough ones?

M has been slipping so much lately – not understanding simple directions, unable to perform easy tasks he was able to do a week ago (like turn on/off the TV), unable to keep up with me and the dogs on our morning walks – that I really feel it’s time to address the car/driving issue.

Ugh.

I don’t want to do this.

I know I have to. I know there’s no way around it. But this is going to be neither fun nor pleasant.

I’ve gone to my Teepa Snow videos for guidance. Here’s what I found:

Not sure when I’m going to tackle this, but say a prayer for me!

  1. Maybe his car keys just get misplaced… right into your purse. I had to go through this with my mom, but her vision was the issue and at that time her memory was excellent. She didn’t have any money, but she had a debt-free house that was at risk if she insisted on driving. She finally agreed, but it was very hard getting to that point. Prayers for you and M.

  2. If anyone can handle this the right way…it is you! We are all so proud how you have stepped up to carry this heavy cross you have been given. Love you and all you do for M.

  3. You don’t have to do it; find an “expert,” like in the video. Hire an actor if you need to. Take the blame away from yourself, but you absolutely must get this done.
