Looks as though M and our younger son are going to make their cross-country trek, after all.
This weekend was good. Our youngest grandson had his first birthday, which was fun. M handled all that well. Saturday morning, M’s brother called from Maryland to ask about coming this way for a visit this coming weekend. I told him that we were hoping that M would get to fly to CA to join younger son as he rides back to the East Coast in his car and then starts school in VA. I didn’t realize that we hadn’t kept this brother in the loop of what was going on with M and his job situation, so M was standing there as I was explaining it to his brother.
After M talked to his brother and had hung up the phone, he was quiet and I could tell he was upset, so I asked him what was going on. He said he just didn’t want anyone to think there was anything wrong with him.
M and I went to his employer first thing this morning and waited for the HR representative to come in. When M first went out on medical leave, it was scheduled to be for two weeks and the two weeks were up yesterday. We hadn’t heard anything from the employer as to what the next steps were going to be, so we were there bright and early. The bottom line is – they still don’t have a spot for him that will keep him safe and give him a chance to be successful, but they are working on that. So, his leave continues.
Since it will be another week or so before they will have anything for him and our son will start driving back across the country later this week and is looking for someone to ride with him, what better time to get a direct flight for M and let the two of them spend some time together?
I talked to the airline today and confirmed that I can walk M through security and to the gate at the airport, so that will alleviate the problem of M getting confused or out-of-sorts trying to get through security or at the gate. And, at the other end, our son will be able to meet him at the gate to get him right off the plane, so there will be no problems on that end.
I think they’re going to have a great trip – it should be a ton of fun!
That is great for both of them.
