After the Rain

I left the office feeling really good yesterday. The day had been rainy, but the sun was out and it was going to be a good evening. M and my dad were out to dinner. I was going to have some time alone at home to decompress and relax. The World Series was starting. All was right with the world.

Hahahahahahaha!

I walked in the door and there stood M. ??????

Me: What are you doing here? I thought you were going out to dinner with dad. M: I got a flu shot today. My arm hurts. Me: You couldn’t go out to dinner because your arm hurts? M: I told your dad last week that I didn’t think I was going to go tonight. Me: You knew last Tuesday that your arm was going to hurt tonight? M: I don’t know what the big deal is.

And then he marches off to another room.

It’s not a big deal. It really doesn’t matter at all, I guess. But now that he’s not going to work every day, the only social interaction M has all day is with me. And that’s during the limited amount of time I’m at home. He needs to get out and be around other people, even if it’s just this one night a week.

But he didn’t want to hear any of that.

Of course, it wasn’t five minutes before he was glued to my hip, wanting to see video of his car, from the new security camera, driving out of the garage as he went to get his flu shot. I guess that was the highlight of the day.

As I stood in the kitchen, something smelled HORRIBLE and I realized M had neglected to take the trash out yesterday. I had reminded him it was Black Plastic Bag Tuesday when I left for work, but I didn’t leave a sticky note about it (my mistake!!) so he had forgotten it. But that smell!! I don’t know what was in the garbage, but it stank to high heaven. I can’t believe THAT didn’t alert him to the problem. I even asked him if he didn’t smell it, but he said no, he didn’t smell anything.

Don’t tell me he’s losing that, too.
