Today is THE DAY!! We celebrate M and his 28 years with his employer. I’m really excited for him – and I think he is, too. I was trying to get dressed for work this morning and he came in there and started getting dressed, as well. I had to tell him – first, get out of my way. When I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get ready, everyone else has to scatter. And two, he doesn’t need to start getting his party clothes on until closer to 2:00 pm.
Last night, I had another fun evening out with a friend for dinner and when I got home, it was after 7:00 and he hadn’t eaten. He was waiting for me to get home and warm up the leftover pizza for him. In his defense, our new oven is tricky – the controls to turn it on aren’t intuitive at all. But I wondered why he hadn’t made a sandwich or something.
On a funny note, in the job I had years ago at the sales training school, they did personality assessments, and I am a high “I” which means I like to write and talk and I have lots of energy and value conversation and personal interaction. The man I worked for at the school was a high “D” which meant he was decisive and got to the point quickly and didn’t engage in a lot of meaningless talk or frivolity. We got along really well and I emailed him yesterday to tell him about the experience I had with the solar panel salesperson. Then I included a sentence or two about M’s retirement and another about my current job and wished him a happy Halloween.
His response? “Thanks for the update. Good to hear from you.”
I had to laugh. It was just such a perfect high “D” response. And I don’t mean that in a bad way AT ALL. That was verbose for him – and for all high “D”s. He said what he had to say and that was it. Moving on. It’s variety that makes the world go round.
On to the party!!
Have fun!
I hope it was a great party and M had fun.
Oh I hope the party made M feel loved and appreciated!
